Introducing Mark Drayton EPM Practice Director at Namos

Introducing Mark Drayton EPM Practice Director at Namos

I have enjoyed working with Oracle EPM (nee Hyperion) for 20 years, and at the beginning the suite primarily focused on FP&A, Finance and Consolidation activities and has evolved into a suite of tools and functionality that far exceeds its origins, which is a sign of a product that has evolved with the world, delivering results with greater confidence within challenging timescales.

My career has taken me across manufacturing, financial services, energy, telecommunications and the public sector in a variety of roles.  I have delivered a variety of Oracle EPM solutions for organisations ranging from global enterprises to complex public bodies as a sole delivery or as part of finance transformation initiatives.

Today, I lead the EPM team as a Practice Director at Namos, responsible not only for solution design and technical quality, but also for building a high‑performing team and long‑term client partnerships.  I’ve spent much of my career as a hands‑on architect, leading the delivery of planning, consolidation, profitability, narrative reporting and data management solutions, often in high‑pressure transformation programmes.

That experience has shaped a pragmatic philosophy:
EPM is not about implementing software – it’s about creating systems that organisations can trust, understand, and evolve.

Too many organisations still live with overly complex, fragile solutions that only a small number of people understand.  The focus of the Namos team is to deliver solutions with a sustainable design, strong integration, that empowers users to own and understand their applications.

What EPM Really Delivers for Customers

At its best, EPM provides a single, governed foundation for insight.  But the real value goes far beyond budgeting or statutory reporting.

A well‑implemented EPM platform enables organisations to:

  • Plan with confidence, using driver‑based models rather than static spreadsheets.
  • Respond faster to change, running scenarios across workforce, costs, revenue and profitability.
  • Create transparency, especially in complex allocation, transfer pricing or profitability models.
  • Reduce manual effort and risk, replacing spreadsheet‑driven processes with governed workflows.
  • Tell a coherent story, linking numbers with narrative and commentary for stakeholders.

The Market Direction

The EPM market has matured significantly in recent years.  Finance teams are under pressure from multiple directions: regulatory change, economic uncertainty, workforce challenges, and increasing demand for real‑time insight from the business.

At the same time, patience for long, complex implementations has diminished.  Organisations want:

  • Faster time to value
  • Clear roadmaps aligned to business priorities
  • Solutions that integrate cleanly with ERP, HCM and data platforms
  • Confidence that today’s design won’t become tomorrow’s technical debt

This has driven a clear shift in delivery approach and a shift towards cloud‑based platforms that evolve – Oracle are great at looking at the market trends and listening to their customers via Cloud Customer Connect

Oracle EPM: Direction of Travel

Oracle EPM Cloud is firmly aligned to this market direction.  The platform continues to move towards:

  • Greater convergence between planning, financial close and reporting processes.  I’m excited to see what Oracle have to offer in this space – 2026 is looking quite exciting (safe harbour applies).
  • Embedded intelligence, with predictive planning, advanced predications and Insights all part of the embedded AI capability.
  • Stronger integration, particularly via Oracle Integration Cloud and REST APIs.  I’ve seen seamless integrations being triggered from EPM into Fusion giving the users the power to decide when to share data.
  • Simplification of administration, reducing reliance on deep technical skills.

What I see in practice is that customers who embrace Oracle’s standard capabilities, achieve better long‑term outcomes.  The challenge is knowing where to align to standard functionality and where to differentiate – and that’s where experience really matters.

How Namos Helps Customers Succeed with Oracle EPM

This is where Namos plays a crucial role.  Successful EPM programmes are not delivered by technology alone, they are delivered through a strong collaborative approach that addresses both business and technology elements.

Namos combines deep Oracle EPM expertise with a pragmatic understanding of how to best achieve the desired outcomes that fits with the level of change an organisation can accept.

Looking Ahead

The future of EPM is about clarity, confidence and agility.  Finance leaders need platforms and partners they can trust to support better decisions, not add complexity.

With the continued evolution of the Oracle EPM platform, and with the right delivery mindset, organisations have a real opportunity to move beyond traditional processes and towards genuinely insight‑driven performance management.

That’s the journey I’ve been on for the last two decades and it’s one I’m excited to continue.
